All the above images show the basic Deegam band variations - Short bands - Notched bands - Inset bands. All other band variations will be combinations of the above (examples shown below). To understand and make full use of the Deegam notation system you will need a copy of The Complete Deegam Machin Handbook, contact Douglas Myall deegam@btopenworld.com.

Some examples

2B(I2) + S17

Example 1 has an inset band right and both bands are short at bottom - The stamp would be described in the Deegam catalogue as 2B(I2) (inset band right) + S17 (short bands at bottom).

2B(I2) + S16

Example 2 has an inset band right and both bands are short at top - The stamp would be described in the Deegam catalogue as 2B(I2) (inset band right) + S16 (short bands at top).

S3(OR)

Example 3 has the band offset right and is short at top and bottom - The stamp would be described in the Deegam catalogue as S3(OR).

S17 + S1

Example 4 has two bands short at bottom and a centre band short at top - The stamp would be described in the Deegam catalogue as S17 (short bands at bottom) + S1 (short band at top).

S16 + S2

Example 5 has two bands short at top and a centre band short at bottom - The stamp would be described in the Deegam catalogue as S16 (short bands at top) + S2 (short band at bottom).

2B(I2) + N1

Example 6 has a notched band top left and the right band is inset - The stamp would be described in the Deegam catalogue as 2B(I2) (inset band right) + N1 (Notched band at top left).

Broad Band stamps show one band

Wide band stamps show two bands

I am often asked the difference between broad and wide band stamps, broad band stamps must only show one band on the stamp (Can be at left, right or centre of stamp), they are much rarer than wide band varieties so be careful when purchasing this type of error. If the stamp is described as broad band but shows even the slightest traces of phosphor on the opposite perforations it is a wide band not broad.
